Peking University Shenzhen Hospital Officially Achieved China International Hospital Accreditation (CIHA) Standards
On April 29, 2026, Peking University Shenzhen Hospital was officially awarded China's international hospital accreditation standards(CIHA), becoming another high-level hospital in Shenzhen meeting global standards. This milestone marks the hospital’s full alignment with international benchmarks in medical quality, patient safety, and management, while boosting Shenzhen’s drive to become a global medical hub and advancing Chinese medical standards internationally.
In China, the “Grade 3A” rating is the gold standard for hospitals. CIHA accreditation integrates China’s rigorous 3A requirements with advanced international management concepts. It not only upholds strict bottom lines in quality, safety, and standardized management but also introduces global best practices such as lean quality improvement, enterprise risk management, and humanistic care. This “hard yardstick” for internationalizing hospitals significantly enhances patients’ sense of safety and satisfaction.
Earlier, on March 26, 2026, the hospital was selected as one of the first 25 pilot institutions in Guangdong Province for international medical services. With over 20 years of experience in international medical services, the hospital established its International Medical Department in 2013, offering seven core modules: expert outpatient clinics, health checkups, telemedicine, dedicated services for Hong Kong and Macao residents, direct billing with international insurers, and continuing care with home visits. It has also built a multilingual volunteer team of over 80 members to eliminate language barriers. Direct billing agreements with 26 international commercial insurers and a newly launched insurance service center have streamlined cross-border reimbursement. In the past five years, international patient visits have grown steadily, reaching 58,000 in 2025 from over 80 countries and regions, including the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.
As 2026 is the “APEC China Year” and Shenzhen is the host city, the hospital will leverage this accreditation as a new starting point. It will benchmark against top international standards, deepen quality and safety systems, accelerate the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and innovative drugs, and build a “one-stop, full-process, high-quality” international medical center. By creating a smart, humanistic, and efficient international healthcare ecosystem, the hospital aims to become a model of international medical services, supporting Shenzhen’s rapid development into a global medical hub and providing efficient, high-quality healthcare to residents of the Greater Bay Area and expatriates alike.
